Latisse (bimatoprost) is a prescription medication that is the only FDA approved treatment for thinning eyelashes. It will make eyelashes grow longer, thicker, fuller and darker if used daily. Latisse is a prescription medication and can only be dispensed by physicians and routine follow up is recommended.
Latisse is safe. It can not be used in patients who have a history of glaucoma, currently using Lumigan, or have pending eye surgeries. Most common side effects are itchiness around the eyes or eye redness. Every patient that is placed on Latisse is followed up in 4 to 6 weeks to ensure that they are tolerating it well without any side effects.
In my experience, Latisse really works and my patients absolutely love it. You will realize that you don't have to wear thick and heavy mascara anymore. Maximum results are typically seen after 16 weeks of use, although most patients see some results after 4 to 8 weeks.
Latisse is applied in the following way. First, clean the upper eyelashes. Then put 1drop of Latisse on the applicator that is supplied and apply it to the upper eyelashes only. Do not apply to the lower eyelashes. Put another drop onto the applicator and then apply it to the upper eyelashes of the other eye. Make sure not to accidentally apply Latisse to normal skin as it will make hair to grow in that area. Continue to do this every night and you will see amazing results in 16 weeks.
